Christian Standard Bible
In 2016, Useful Group began working with Holman Bibles to launch the Christian Standard Bible. The challenge? Coordinating with outside agencies and internal departments to tell one compelling, nuanced story—and making that story heard in a crowded market.

The Pastor Brochure: A Case Study
-
An Opportunity
Pastors are a key audience for a Bible translation—when they make a switch, their whole church often adopts the new translation. But a year after launch, we found that interested pastors were receiving a generic and outdated brochure.
-
Brainstorming
Our team listened to pastors and church leaders, and we realized they weren’t looking for solutions to one specific need. They were looking for a Bible that could work across the range of needs and contexts in diverse churches.
-
Storyboarding
We organized the new pastors’ pack in two sections: the first explaining the framework of the CSB’s both-and approach, and the second telling stories of the translation working in a range of environments.
-
Design
To make the brochure more modern and less corporate, our design team brought the brand’s signature orange into a color palette of white and soft brown, as well as introducing clean geometric elements and lifestyle photography.
-
Gathering Stories
We worked closely with the client to get the nuances right. But the real fun came in working with the client to gather stories from pastors, teachers, and leaders who loved the CSB translation.
